Bicycle Accident case settles for $1.3 million dollars
Mr. Emroch represented the estate of Ms. Neeley, a 60-year-old mother of two adult children. On June 30, 1999, while riding her bicycle, along with her 65-year-old husband, on a cross-country trip from Virginia Beach to San Francisco, she was rear-ended by the defendant in Montgomery County, Virginia. Ms. Neeley was killed instantly when she broke her neck after striking the ground. A lawsuit was filed in Federal Court in Roanoke. Ms. Neeley had been in excellent condition for her age and had participated in numerous marathons. Her husband and children were all well educated, with degrees from Ivy League universities. The close-knit family was devastated by the loss of Ms. Neeley. After commencing litigation, the firm obtained a settlement in the amount of $1.3 million dollars for Ms. Neeley's family.
